American Express launches Amex Pay in India

The new mobile payment service is here in India. American Express has launched a mobile payment service called Amex Pay in India last week. Now, American Express cardholders can use the new facility by making QR scans and contactless payments through the Amex mobile app.

The new service will work on issued, non- cancelled American Expressed credit and charge cards; American Express Prepaid cards, Virtual Accounts, while it won’t work on Corporate Purchasing cards and Corporate Meeting cards.  The feature will currently operate on Android 4.4 KitKat or higher devices with NFC functionality and iOS devices with version 11.2.6. Meanwhile, Contactless payments are not supported in iOS devices. Additionally, the device will be able to read the QR codes through the camera app, in order to make a QR code based transaction.

American Express users can register for Amex Pay through the Amex mobile app. Firstly the user must select the register option and then provide the required information, after that they will receive an OTP for verification. Once the verification is completed, users can make QR –based payments through the Bharat QR scan.

To use the NFC- based contactless payments, the user must install the NFC on their Android devices. After that, they must hold their Smartphones near the payment terminal to complete a transaction. Last year, Samsung Pay was launched in India with support for eligible American Express credit and charge cards.
