Video Games Loot Boxes will no...The video games industry will soon become a $50 billion industry in the future and that is why the federal regulators have now decided to investigate the growing trend. This means that the products related to gaming will be under the surveillance of America’s top consumer watchdog, the senior officials from the Federal Trade Commission. The loot boxes will be checked along with the digital goods that are offered to the players. These are often sold for a fee which will contain abilities, clothing and many such advantages that won’t be available in the game easily. A probe will be launched by the FTC Chairman, Joseph Simons along with four other commissioners who testified their support.
The main reason for this step is the “close link to gambling” which many believe is endemic in the gaming industry that is enticing players to spend unnecessary money for random loot. “Children may be particularly susceptible to engaging with these in-game purchases, which are often considered integral components of video games,” said Hassan. Currently, there are many games that are in the market which gives out such loot boxes. Among them are games like “Fortnite,” “PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds” and “FIFA 18.” Will this new step make any changes for the future of gaming? Let’s wait and watch.
