Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou Jailed...Huawei, a Chinese tech giant, is facing heat for the involvement of its Chief Financial Officer (CFO), Meng Wanzhou, for allegedly helping her company dodge US sanctions on Iran, according to Canadian prosecutors.
Ms.Wanzhou, wanted by the United States, was detained in Vancouver on December 1 and has been in jail since, according to a report published by CNN Business. The court hearing is scheduled on Monday.
βMs.Wanzhou is sought for extradition by the United States, and a bail hearing has been set for Friday,β McLeod said in a statement, which was first reported by The Globe and Mail.
Ms.Wanzhou serves as deputy chairwoman of Huaweiβs board, in addition to her role as CFO of the company.
βThe company has been provided very little information regarding the charges and is not aware of any wrongdoing by Ms. Meng,βa Huawei spokesperson said.
βThe company believes the Canadian and US legal systems will ultimately reach a just conclusion. Huawei complies with all applicable laws and regulations where it operates, including applicable export control and sanction laws and regulations of the UN, US and EU,β the spokesperson added.
Meanwhile, China sendsa strong message over the arrest of the executive and demands her release.
Meng Wanzhou, daughter of Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei, is also known as Sabrina Meng and Cathy Meng.
