Puma is relaunching one of its classic shoes with a touch of innovation

Puma is coming up with a shoe for the fitness conscious and tech-savvy world! And, the design is inspired by one of its classic collections. What is better than having the amalgamation of the classic design of the 1980s and the technologies of today?

Puma is relaunching a limited edition 1986 RS-Computer running shoes. The classic model had a computer chip embedded into its heels to record distance, time, and the number of calories burnt. Earlier, runners had to connect the shoe to any Commodore 64, Apple IIE, or IBM PC via a 16-pin connector to view the data.

While the updated version is similar looking shoes, but it is more inclined towards the tech end. The new shoes have a three-axis accelerometer, LED indicators, a USB port for charging, and the best thing is that the shoes can be connected to phones wirelessly using Bluetooth technology. Puma is only launching 86pairs that are individually numbered. It will be sold at Puma stores in London, Tokyo, and Berlin. Puma claims that RS-Computer shoes are the world’s first computerized running shoes. Apparently, it is not completely true as Adidas claims that it released its Micropacer shoes in 1984 which had similar features. However, unlike Puma’s 1986 computerized shoes, it didn’t have any such ports to connect the shoes to a system.

Nevertheless, the 1986 RS-Computer shoes were much ahead of its time and relaunching them is a great idea!
