Amazon FreeTime Unlimited service will finally be available on iOS devices
The Silicon Review
23 June, 2018

Amazon will now make its FreeTime Unlimited app available for iOS users after keeping it exclusive for Amazon hardware only. The Amazon FreeTime Unlimited is a very popular app among kids for reading and entertainment that offers unlimited access to 10,000 books, movies and TV shows. Both Prime and non-Prime members can take up the subscription for a plan of up to four users across tablets, phones, e-readers and smart speakers.

Apple is presently promoting the new app on the home page of the App Store, but it has to be bought through Amazon’s site, not iTunes. Also available on Android devices, the users of the service can use it across Fire tablet, Fire Kids Edition tablet, compatible Android phones and tablets, or compatible Echo devices. Offering content appropriate for kids is a significant move for both Amazon and Apple at a time when other media companies too are focusing on delivering kid-friendly versions of their services.

The app has also divided the content suitable for different age groups and will have parental controls by way of the Amazon Parent Dashboard as well as Discussion Cards that will provide the summaries of what the kids are watching. The content might vary depending on the geographies but it will include shows like Sesame Street, Arthur, Dora the Explorer from PBS and Nickelodeon as well as Amazon Originals such as Just Add Magic, The Kicks, Thunderbirds are Go, Creative Galaxy, and Tumble Leaf.

We launch new products and features as they’re ready,” an Amazon spokesperson said. “We’re excited to bring the FreeTime Unlimited experience to iOS devices, including iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch.
