Growth Plan: Vistara to Get New Boeing and Airbus worth $3.1 Billion

Tata SIA Airlines Limited (Vistara), Indian airline has ordered Boeing and Airbus from Airbus SE and Boeing Co. on Wednesday. The order involves 19 planes (6 Boeing 787 jets and 13 Airbus SE A320neos) worth $3 Billion, respectively.

“The aircraft purchase will help Vistara to expand both within and outside India and on all routes that this aircraft could support the company on,” said Leslie Thng, chief executive, Vistara.

The purchase will pave a way for Vistara to add more domestic flights in its belt and start international flights by this year’s end.

The sleek and large-body planes will mark a new setback for both Boeing and Airbus as Airbus is trying hard to strengthen the order book for its enhanced A330neo passenger jet. According to Airbus, the demand for the enhanced jet is rising and the company will announce new orders soon. Boeing is slightly ahead in delivering new orders than their European counterpart.

“For medium to long-haul destinations, the company decided that Boeing 787-900 (Dreamliner) would be best for us and would allow us to start medium-haul operations from 2020,” added Thng.

Vistara is also looking forward to leasing more 37 new A320neo-family aircraft from leasing firms. Adding to it, the company will introduce 50 new A3230neo- planes into its fleet.

Vistara is expected to start its international flights by this December, initially starting with a 3-5 hours range journey and by 2020 it will boost up its flights to Europe and America.
