Intel aims to work more on AI technologies to bring it to all its business models. With the same intention, the computer processing giant, Intel has acquired Vertex.Al, a Deep Learning startup. This startup has a mission of developing “Deep Learning for every platform” and hence, it has come up with a Deep Learning engine called PlaidML.

Not many details have been disclosed by the company about its acquisition of Vertex.AI but it has released a statement confirming the deal and also that the entire team of Vertex.AI including the founders Choong Ng, Jeremy Bruestle and Brian Retford, will be joining Intel. The Vertex.AI team will now become a member of Intel’s Movidius unit. According to Vertex.AI, Intel will continue to work on PlaidML as an open source platform. It will continue to support Apache 2.0 licensed hardware with an Intel nGraph backend support. “We are excited to advance flexible deep learning for edge computing as part of Intel,” Vertex.AI said.

As a lot of new companies in the field of processor designing have emerged in the recent years, Intel, once a global leader and dominator of the processor technology has somewhat lost its glory and momentum. Therefore, the company wants to comeback with a wave of next-generation computing. The company realizes the importance of deep learning as it is going to be the future of advanced computer; hence its acquisition of Vertex.AI and other investments in AI are some of its major steps in gearing up its game a little.
