FedEx to Test last-mile Delivery Robot for its Partners

FedEx to Test last-mile Delivery Robot for its Partners

FedEx, an American courier company intends to conduct trials on a robot which is created for home delivery services for its partners, reported Reuters. The company’s partners range from Pizza Hut to Walmart.

The company will partner with DEKA Development & Research Corp for the new development. According to FedEx, the new robots could be chipped into the company’s two-day delivery service which operates in many cities around the globe.

The battery-based robots resemble coolers on wheels and are packed with software and cameras, which help them to recognize and prevent obstacles in the road.The robots will have a top speed of 10 miles/hour.

Moreover, the trials must get the green signal in test cities, which also includes Memphis, the origin city of the company. The delivery will be debuted within the company’s office stores.

Majority of the merchant’s customers reside within three miles of a store location. Apart from the two above-citedpartners, the company is also working with the company stated that it is working with partners to AutoZone Inc and Target Corp to test whether autonomous delivery is effective enough to cut down cost and time.

Other than the robot testing, the company’s rivals, United Parcel Service is not working on robots but instead testing drones.

Shippers, retailers, and restaurants are testing on drones, robots and autonomous delivery services in order to save time and money.
