Poland unlikely to exclude all Huawei equipment for 5G

Mobile operators in Poland will unlikely stop using all Huawei for its next-gen mobile networks, Reuters reported. The move comes after Poland has decided to avoid increased costs for mobile operators.

The Chinese company has faced scrutiny in the West over its ties with China’s government and doesn’t accept the US-led charges over its 5G equipment being used for spying.

People familiar with the matter said in January, the Polish government was ready to exclude Huawei from 5G networks because of an incident where the Polish government arrested a Chinese Huawei employee and a former Polish security official over spying.

The country’s capital, Warsaw will raise security standards and set a restriction for 5G networks. The decision will be made soon.

From a long time, Huawei has been the primary supplier of equipment’s to the telecom operators and it provides the equipment at a cheaper rate than other suppliers. 

Several operators across the globe are using Huawei’s equipment for conducting 5G trails.

The ban may prove costly to Poland. There can be a rise in price and the implementation of new technologies can get delayed.

Play, the largest mobile operator in Poland stated that it hasn’t faced any issues with Huawei’s equipment to date. Apart from Play, mobile operators such as Orange Polska, Polkomtel, and few others use gears provided by Huawei.

US officials stressed the dangers of acquiring equipments from Huawei in Central Europe and Poland. It will be interesting to see whether Poland will continue using Huawei equipment’s or not.
