Type-2 diabetes makes the body insulin resistant which results in an incapability to process blood sugar normally. Some of the symptoms associated with type-2 diabetes are tiredness, frequent urination, frequent thirst, blurred vision, etc. Diabetes can be regulated with the help of the right diet, medication, and exercise. There are certain food items that help to boost insulin sensitivity and hence, manage diabetes.

Research by the University of Illinois has indicated that red raspberries may be a superfood for people suffering from type-2 diabetes or who are at risk of being diabetic. The research was published in the journal Obesity. As per Obesity, raspberries can benefit people suffering from insulin resistance and pre-diabetes.The researchers observed that if participants ate two cups of raspberries with their meals, their glucose concentration was lower compared to those who didn’t include raspberries in their meals.

In fact, two separate types of research were published, one in the journal Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism andthe other one in Obesity. As per the research published in Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism, raspberries are effective in improving postprandial glucose and acute and chronic inflammation in diabetes patients. While the research published in Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism focused on obese adults with type-2 diabetes, the other one concentrated more on pre-diabetic patients.

As per the research, the fruit is rich in polyphenols and low in calories.
