SpaceX, one of the world’s most top notched rocket companies has launched a series of new 60 satellites into low-Earth orbit on Thursday. The launch is exclusively for the Starlink internet service which is owned by Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX.

The new series of satellites were carried by the Falcon 9 rocket which left earth from Cape Canaveral Air Force Station on Friday (0230 GMT). After a successful launch, the satellites were thrown out in the orbit. The main stage re-usable booster rocket of Falcon 9 returned back to earth and landed on a barge in the Atlantic Ocean.

The California-based aerospace company stated that in order to check the conditions of the deployed satellites it would probably take another day. The weight of each payload is about 500 pounds; making it the heaviest one to be carried out a Space X till date.

According to Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX, the new venture for Starlink is an important revenue stream for the company, whose launch service income could top out at around $3 billion per year.

At least 12 launches carrying similar payloads are required to attain seamless internet coverage in major parts of the world. Currently, Starlink can carry out its operation only in America.

The company will begin to approach customers by later this year or in 2020. Every year, 2.00 satellites would be launched into space; while the main objective would be to place 12,000 satellites into the orbit.
