YouTube adds AR feature in its Platform
The Silicon Review
21 June, 2019

The new feature by YouTube will now allow users to do makeup while streaming videos. On Tuesday, the company unveiled an Augmented Reality (AR)-based new feature in its platform.

Dubbed as AR Beauty Try-On, the feature will allow users to test the products which they like, for instance, users can apply lipsticks while watching their favorite creator review it or explain how to apply it.

After watching any video, users will have an option to purchase the desired product.

The video streaming giant is lucky enough to use its influencer platform, FameBit to link brands and video stars for the AR integrations. FameBit was acquired by YouTube in 2016. FameBit will enable Youtube to stand out from other influencer platforms by allowing them to connect to it and offering brands better intelligence on video makers, said a person familiar with the matter.

According to YouTube in testing, 30% of users chose to try the AR experience and users spent over 80 seconds to out different lipsticks.

In order to make the development successful, the company is collaborating with e-commerce and makeup companies that have been using to improve customer’s experience.

There are many brands which have tried hard to create apps that tap into the technology and also have explored the AR space, but it’s expensive to build an audience for an app.

The new feature by YouTube is a big boost for them.
