Croatia may ban upcoming resta...The Croatian port-city of Dubrovnik has been fraught by over tourism over the past few years. The famous show, The Game of Thrones, has filmed multiple shots in this scenic Balkan city. Since then, major fans have thronged to witness the site of the filming which caused the Croatian government to lay down laws by banning cruise ships and souvenir shops, laying down laws in order to cut the seating area near eateries, etc. Now the government plans on taking this up a notch by banning all upcoming restaurants in order to prevent the thronging crowds.
"Anyone wanting to open a restaurant in the Old Town cannot put down new tables and chairs for the next five years. They can open inside, but knowing the Old City it's very hard to find a place where you can work inside. Ninety nine percent of restaurants work mainly with outside tables. The city council owns all the public space in Dubrovnik, and can therefore decide whether or not a restaurant can be allocated space outside for tables,” said theMayor of Dubrovnik,MatoFrankoviฤ, in a statement.
This move translates to mean that no new restaurants can be opened in the area for the next five years. Proposed by the mayor, the aforementioned five year plan will provide more security for business holders whilst assuring optimum utilisation of public area over the course of time.
