Microchip Technology Inc Announced Certification of Its MPLAB® XC Compilers By TUV SUD

The practical safety certifications are necessary but it is often a time-consuming and expensive processin many industries. Certifications require extensive justification for the use by functional safety experts of specific development tools that are certified for compliance.To this end, Microchip Technology Inc., announced the certification of its MPLAB® XC compilers by TUV SUD for functional safety, significantly simplifying the process of functional safety qualification for PIC®, AVR®, and SAM microcontrollers (MCUs) or dsPIC® Digital Signal Controllers (DSCs) by Microchip.Microchip recently introduced a MPLAB Code Coverage license to further simplify testing and diagnostics, which defines pieces of software that have not been performed with minimal impact to the program.

Ensuring high test coverage of embedded software also requires a large amount of hardware adjustmentand considerable effort to scan for relevant information from large data files. The MPLAB Code Coverage software prevents this with an effect to test time of less than one per cent. Code can be evaluated in a single pass through a proprietary procedure, without breaking the code into blocks.This prevents sifting through large files of data and further save the time. As certified applications often require data from this code testing, this new license can help with the seamless certification process further.
