Toyota put a continuously variable transmission in its all-new GR Yaris
The Silicon Review
24 January, 2020

The GR Yaris has been the biggest star as the Tokyo Auto Salon by eclipsing many supercars and concept cars like Supra A90s. It has a manual gearbox and also has a CVT concept with the continuously variable transmission, although the car has similar features as that of the standard model. The car also underwent a huge change with respect to its turbocharge and cylinder capacity, as the new GR Yaris has a three-cylinder 1.6-liter turbocharged gasoline engine and a naturally aspirates 1.5-liter mill.

One other crucial change is that it lacks a four-wheel-drive system, with the concept car’s CVT sending power to the front axle. The details about the performance of the car are not yet released by the firm, but people are hoping that this car will hold rally-inspired wheels with turbocharging capacity. It also has a carbon fiber polymer to keep the weight of the vehicle low. It also has a double-wishbone suspension at the back.

Toyota is actually planning to launch a CVT equipped GR Yaris. This would help the firm to sell the subcompact hatchback under the GR Sport trim. By adding power and reducing the overall bodyweight of the car, the company has already hinted that it might announce the releasing date which is somewhere down the line.
