Deep-Sea port project on the coast of Black Sea will not be revived anytime soon

Deep-Sea port project on the coast of Black Sea will not be revived anytime soon
The Silicon Review
24 Febuary, 2020

A deep-sea port worth $2.5 billion was expected to be built on the Black Sea coast, but the idea of Georgia’s government was torpedoed. It is a small country and it houses very fewer politicians who will support the idea of dropping the project. With general elections approaching in Georgia, the long prized infrastructure will not receive any kind of political support. The main idea of building a port was not to make the Georgians feel better but they wanted to make a statement that their economic growth is very solid. The coalition and opposition parties are going back and forth on why the contract of the public private partnership (PPP) got terminated.

Natia Turnava, Georgia’s minister for Economy and Sustainable development stated that a new tender will be materialized soon for the deep-port and they are waiting for the general elections to end in October so that the new government can settle this. Furthermore, it was stated that Anaklia is very important and the project cannot be delayed for long, moreover, the new tender announcement was a logical move. The ministry of infrastructure is all set to review the terms and conditions because they have been under the radar since 2017.
