Sony’s new patent filings show that they are planning to enter the voice assistant race

Sony’s new patent filings show that they are planning to enter the voice assistant race
The Silicon Review
28 Febuary, 2020

For several years the field of voice-activated personal assistant was put on hold, but in the last 5 years, several big names like Alibaba, Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Google, and Amazon have shown a massive interest in this segment. A new competitor has now entered the race who is Sony. The company is gearing up for the launch of PlayStation 5 even though an official confirmation is awaited. IP watchers have reported that Sony was recently granted a patent for an AI-powered voice assistant. This feature is expected to enhance, aid, and improve the monetization of gameplay videos. The new patent follows a patent that was issued last year in September for an AI voice assistant from Sony. An announcement was later made that the voice assistant technology will be used in most of the offerings from Sony.

The tech firm is targeting three main areas and that would be sensors, culinary arts, and gaming. Sony is expecting to release the ps5 this year and with the new voice assistant, the offering will be considered as the next big release entering the voice assistant race. The number of voice assistants in the market is rising but it is always interesting to watch a new entrant.
