Project Natick is being used by Microsoft to understand Covid-19’s proteins

An experimental data center of Microsoft that is submerged under the sea in the Orkney Islands of Scotland is processing loads of data to understand Covid-19’s proteins. This will help in designing therapeutics to stop them. Idle computing processing power will be used in big science research to perform certain tasks. This new computing project will help us understand infectious diseases, climate change, and map cancer markers. This trend was started when thousands of people downloaded a screensaver called SETI@home to search for extraterrestrial radio signals.

To simulate the protein dynamics, a computing project called the Folding@home was launched in late 2000. Proteins are known as molecular machines that will perform essential functions for life, which ranges from a sense of taste to hair growth. The function of the protein is determined by the structure of it. In the simulation, we can identify the type of drug that can be used to bind it with the viral protein. One of the forerunners in distributed computing is Folding@home, and now with a bunch of workloads, it is gearing up to discover antibodies and develop immunizations. Project Natick is completely different from other commercial Microsoft datacenters. The AI is tailor-made to meet certain demands, and its servers are somewhat similar to several high-end PCs combined.
