With its new energy investments, Amazon is all set to become the greenest cloud option

The latest efforts will make AWS the most sustainable option for users

Amazon has recently made an announcement that it will be scaling up its investment in renewable energy projects. Amazon wants to power almost every business operation of the company with renewable energy. In an event held recently in Las Vegas, amazon had announced almost 18 new renewable projects spanning across countries like the US, Germany, Finland, Italy, UK, and Spain. The latest efforts will make AWS the most sustainable option for users. The announcement projects are all set to make Amazon one of the largest buyers of renewable energy.

When the ongoing projects are completed, AWS’s capacity to produce renewable energy will reach a massive 12GW and 33,700 GWph. Globally, there are more than 270 projects for Amazon, which are all aimed at powering 100 percent of its operations by 2025. Earlier, Amazon had mentioned that businesses in Europe could significantly reduce their energy use by almost 80 percent if they run their applications on AWS. Recent findings from AWS also show that greenhouse gas emissions can be reduced if businesses move their operations to AWS. In 2019 Amazon had pledged that it would achieve carbon neutrality by 2040 and the deadline a decade ahead of the Paris agreement.
