Musk-Twitter takeover dispute will go to Trial in October

Musk-Twitter takeover
The Silicon Review
20 July, 2022

A US judge ordered that the Twitter lawsuit against Elon Musk is heading for the October trial; a massive disappointment for the wealthiest person in the world as he asked for a delay.

Mr. Musk’s walk away from his $44bn bid to buy Twitter prompted the company to sue him. Elon Musk has accused Twitter of withholding information regarding fake accounts. Due to the complexities, the legal team of a tech billionaire has called for the trial to be held early next year, but Twitter asked for a date in September. According to the judge in the state of Delaware, delaying the trial would cast a "cloud of uncertainty," so he agreed with the company. Twitter hopes the court will order Elon Musk to complete the takeover at the agreed price of $54.20 per share.

There is a theory that Mr. Musk still wants to buy Twitter, but at a lower price. His lawyers want more time to dig into the data of the fake accounts. The idea of delaying the trial is a strategy of stalling.

The repeated accusation of Mr. Musk that Twitter has more fake accounts than it claims is damaging the company's image. Twitter's reputation is already at stake. Twitter's revenue is almost entirely based on advertisements. That's why Twitter wants this process to sort quickly. Mr. Musk buying it for $54.20 per share as soon as possible is the best scenario for the company.
