Spain announces to make some t...Pedro Sanchez, Prime Minister of Spain, has announced that multi-journey tickets of trains operated by public train network Renfe are to be free of cost from September 1 until the end of the year.
The state-owned public service transport across Spain has already been made half in response to rapidly rising inflation rates and energy prices. Now the government has announced further 100% discounts under a scheme called Renfe.
As of September, passengers will be able to travel across various trains operated by the network's public services Rodalies, Cercanías, and Media Distance is absolutely free. The Spanish Ministry of Transport said in a statement that the measure encourages maximizing the use of collective public transport to guarantee the needed daily commute with a reliable, safe, economical, comfortable, and sustainable means of transportation amid the steady increase in fuel and energy prices.
However, Spain isn't the only European country that has taken measures to reduce public transport costs. Germany launched an unlimited monthly public transport ticket that costs $9.50 and can be used for local and regional transport across the country. To encourage people to leave their private vehicles at home in 2021 Austrian government has introduced a heavily discounted "climate ticket," which is valid for all modes of public transport in the country.
