YouTube has come up with new t...YouTube understands that some creators prefer to hide their subscriber count
YouTube Creators can now access a new setting for comments in YouTube Studio to monitor comment spam and channel impersonation. The creators will now be able to select an “increase strictness” option. The company hopes that this will reduce the number of spam and identity abuse comments. This is a less strict option than requiring manual review for all comments or switching them off completely. From July 29, channels will be unable to hide their subscriber counts.
The video platform said that hiding the number of subscribers is commonly employed by those pretending to be owners of larger and more established channels. Impersonators often leave comments under other videos to bring people over to their fake page. The video company said this builds on the “hold potentially inappropriate comments for review” setting and will reduce the number of spam and identity abuse comments, reports Engadget. YouTube understands that some creators prefer to hide their subscriber count when they start out and while they are building up an audience. However, this move will make things easier and safer for everyone. YouTube also mentioned reducing the character set people can use when updating a channel name.
