Meta has banned influencer Andrew Tate from Instagram and Facebook for violating its policies.

Andrew Tate was a former kickboxer. His fame rose in 2016 after being removed from Big Brother, a TV show, over a video that depicted him attacking a woman. Tate carried on gaining notoriety online. Twitter banned him for saying women should "bear responsibility" for being sexually assaulted. Meta announced it had removed Andrew Tate from the platforms for violating its policies on dangerous individuals and organizations, but it did not provide further details.

He had 4.7 million followers on Instagram when his account was removed. The number overgrew from around one million in June. At the time of his removal from Big Brother, Mr. Tate said the video was edited, calling it "a total lie trying to make me look bad." However, he has not commented on the Meta ban.

Tate's content has raised concerns about the real-world effect it possibly can have. Especially for the young users exposed to it during their school holidays. The focus was mainly on TikTok, where users say they've been readily served up his videos; it sparked a new wave of videos criticizing and commenting on this kickboxing start's content. YouTube has also found itself under pressure as it's where he has racked up millions of views.
