Googerteller beeps every time your computer sends data to Google

Googerteller beeps every time
The Silicon Review

At present, Googerteller is limited to Linux devices.

The fact that Google tracks a lot of our data while browsing the web is well-known. This propelled a Dutch privacy advocate and developer, Bert Hubert, to create an app to help users understand how often they are tracked. The app is Googerteller, and it beeps every time Google tracks you. It starts beeping when you start typing in the browser or using any program. It works by keeping track of the IP addresses that you connect to. The app will beep whenever you connect to an IP address associated with Google services except for Google Cloud. This works for browsers as well as other programs.

Hubert has shared a demo where he uses Google Chrome to go to the Dutch government’s official website. He starts hearing beeps when he starts typing the website’s address in the search bar. Once he starts using the website, he hears a beep whenever he expands an option or clicks on something. At present, Googerteller is limited to Linux devices. You will not be able to use it on Windows or macOS devices.
