Hackers may have exploited security flaws in Apple devices

Hackers exploited security flaws in Apple devices
The Silicon Review
22 August, 2022

Apple has released an update to improve security flaws on its iPad, Mac devices, and iPhone, which the company says hackers might have "actively exploited."

The technology company said the new software "provides important security updates and is recommended for all users." The industry experts have suggested that the device flaw could allow hackers to take control of affected devices. The update has been made available to iPad Pro, iPad Air 2 and later versions, iPhone 6s and later, and iPad 5th gen and later. The update is also available to the iPad mini four and later and the 7th generation iPod touch.

Mac running with macOS Monterey is also being requested to update. The tech giant said hackers used the flaw to infiltrate WebKit, the engine that powers the Apple web browser Safari. Apple said the exploit could be used by hackers if the user accessed "maliciously-crafted web content."

There are no confirmed reports of specific cases where the security flaw has been used against people or devices. Software updates are an everyday part of modern tech lives, but this update is not to ignore. Apple has released similar emergency security updates throughout the year, the most recent one in March, without much panic or fanfare.
