Netflix is introducing new features via its brand new ad-supported tier. The streaming platform is working on separating the ad-plan from its existing plans. According to a report by Bloomberg, Netflix is working on restricting content downloads on the new ad-supported plan. Users can no longer download movies and shows if they are on the ad-supported program. Presently, users can download shows and movies, allowing them to view the downloaded content even when they are offline.
According to the report, this was discovered due to a code found in the company's iOS app. "Downloads are available on all plans except Netflix with ads," says developer Steve Moser, who found the text in the app. In addition, Moser also reveals that users will be unable to skip ads, and the playback controls will not work when the ad is being displayed. Netflix has already announced that the ad-supported plan will not offer all the content available on its existing plans. The new ad-supported tier is expected to get new shows and movies with a delay. This is done in an attempt to push customers to more premium plans. The ads shown on the ad-supported tier on Netflix will be personalized, and users can tailor them according to their preferences.
