TikTok to teach influencers about mid-term election rules of the US

TikTok to teach influencers

TikTok announces to take extra measures to limit misinformation and violations of its policies ahead of the US mid-term elections.

TikTok has announced new steps to ensure influencers understand that paid political advertisements are prohibited. The company admitted that it needed to work more to ensure influencers followed the rules following the 2020 US election. TikTok believes that during the election in November, they will see many governors, congressional contents, and Senates.

Over the coming days, TikTok announced it would publish host briefings and educational content with advertising agencies and influencers "so the rules of the road are abundantly clear regarding paid content around elections." The video platform warned that if it discovered any political content was paid for and not properly disclosed, the account would be promptly removed from the platform. TikTok said it has a longstanding policy of not allowing paid political advertisement.

However, the actions of the platform go beyond paid content. All the posts, whether paid for or not, must also not violate its policies. TikTok says that harassment, election misinformation, violent extremism, and hateful behavior directed towards election workers are all banned. The content posted on the platform is fact-checked, and the firm is taking steps to limit the spreading of the post while the process is underway.
