The spike in CO2 emissions in ...

The new study said that the carbon emissions in the Amazon region in 2019 and 2020 are more than double the average of the previous eight years and it's linked to law enforcement.
According to the author of the study, fire and deforestation in agriculture were the main drivers of the increase in CO2. According to scientists in recent years, the collapse in law enforcement has encouraged forest clearing. The research has not been reviewed independently but the findings are submitted for publication.
Amazon has the largest tropical forest on Earth. It plays a critical role in maintaining the climate of the Earth by storing massive amounts of carbon in soils and trees. But over a few years, the earth's climate is under pressure as the land has been cleared primarily for farming in Brazil and neighboring countries.
Over the last ten years, the researchers have collected many air samples from different parts using small planes. As per their new study carbon emissions have increased by 89% in 2019 compared to the annual average of emissions between 2010 and 2018. The picture was even worse in 2020 as the emission increased by 122%.
