Sweden found a new leak in the...Sweden has found a new leak in a major undersea pipeline, Nord Stream, which carries Russian natural gas to the EU; it is the fourth discovery this week.
Earlier Sweden and Denmark reported gas leaks in the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines, alerting authorities to the possibility of a deliberate attack. The EU suspected that the leaks had been caused by sabotage. Russia dismissed it by saying that it attacks its own pipeline is predictable and stupid.
According to the Swedish coast guard, they found the fourth leak on Nord Stream 2, close to a larger leak earlier found on Nord Stream 1. The EU previously accused Russia of using gas supplies as a weapon against the union over its support for Ukraine. All the leaders in the EU have come together to clarify that any deliberate attack on the energy infrastructure of the continent would meet with the "strongest possible response." Norway is determined to deploy the military to protect gas and oil installations.
Although both pipelines contain gas neither of them is transporting gas at the moment. The Nord Stream 1 pipeline, consisting of two parallel branches has not transported any gas since August. Russia closed it down, saying it needed maintenance.
