New device allows you to contr...The device has an array of sensors known as a "Stentrode" inserted into the top of the brain via a blood vessel
Synchron, which is a New York based company, has created a device that allows patients to control their iPhone or iPad using their brain. The device is known as the “Synchron Switch”. The device has an array of sensors known as a "Stentrode" inserted into the top of the brain via a blood vessel. It is controlled using the Synchron Switch from the patient's chest wirelessly. Tom Oxley, Synchron's co-founder and CEO said they are excited about Apple and iOS products because they're so ubiquitous, and this would be the first brain switch input into the device.
This is also the first company to receive US Food and Drug Administration approval to conduct clinical trials for a computer –brain implant. Synchron which has raised $70 million in venture and other funding foots the cost of implanting and maintaining the device, it added.
