Twitter is no longer enforcing its Covid-19 misleading information policy, effective from Nov. 23, said the social media platform in a recent update.

This means Twitter will no longer prioritize tagging or removing misleading healthcare information related to Covid-19. In December 2020, Twitter said that it would begin to remove and label misinformation about Covid-19 vaccines as many Twitter accounts made false claims about Covid and the adverse effect of immunizations.

The world’s richest man has committed to free speech on Twitter, thus, why the change was enacted is partially explained. But online safety experts have contended that Mr. Musk’s approach has led to an increase in hate speech, misinformation, and harassment on the platform. However, Musk claimed that since October, hate speech impressions have decreased, but it is not entirely clear how the social media platform has been measuring these impressions.

According to, the technology newsletter Platformer, Twitter employees are scrambling to restore more than 62,000 suspended accounts. And this figure could also include more than 11,000 accounts, which were suspended for violating the Covid-19 misinformation rules of the company.
