The US state of Indiana has sued the popular social media app TikTok over safety and security concerns.

Todd Rokita, the attorney general of Indiana, has accused ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok of violating the consumer protection laws of the state.  On, Wednesday, the state filed two lawsuits. The first lawsuit claims that TikTok exposes young users to inappropriate content. Mr. Rokita, in another lawsuit, alleges that the company does not disclose the potential of the Chinese government to access sensitive consumer information.

The attorney general of Indiana said that the lawsuits are first launched by a US state against ByteDance. The announcement of the lawsuit in Indiana came after other states of the US have drafted legislation to ban TikTok. South Carolina, South Dakota, and Texas prohibited the use of TikTok on state government devices.

According to the head of the FBI TikTok poses a national security concern. For months, the Biden administration has been in talks with TikTok officials as they are trying to reach a national security agreement to protect the data of hundreds of millions of TikTok users in the US.
