The Oscars committee concluded that British actress Andrea Riseborough can keep her nomination, but added that the film's publicity strategy "raised worry."

Despite being an outsider for a nomination, celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow, Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, and Edward Norton supported Riseborough. The Oscars Academy is currently examining whether the marketing violated any guidelines. The flaws did not rise to the extent that the film's candidature should be withdrawn, it stated in its conclusion.

Bill Kramer, the CEO of the Academy, added, that they come across social media and outreach campaigning strategies that raised questions. Direct discussions about those strategies took place with the accountable parties. The "relevant parties" have not been identified by the Academy. No wrongdoing has been levelled against Riseborough.

For the low-budget movie To Leslie, in which she portrays an alcoholic mother from Texas who struggles to make ends meet after blowing her lottery winnings, she was nominated for best actor last week. She hadn't previously been on anyone's radar for the awards season, but she received a late surge of support from well-known admirers who expressed their love for her on social media and occasionally organized screenings.
