Cruise Android app

Cruise has officially released an Android app for ridehailing, allowing potential clients in San Francisco to contact one of its robotaxis.

Cruise has officially released an Android app for ridehailing, allowing potential clients in San Francisco to contact one of its robotaxis even if they do not own an iPhone. According to the self-driving car startup, 20% of its waitlisters are on Android, and an app for the platform is one of the most-requested upgrades on social media. Cruise's new Android app will include all of the improvements made to the iOS app since its release, including the option to drop a moveable pin on the map by long-pressing on the screen.

The company has begun running 24 hours a day, seven days a week in all districts of San Francisco. Employees have been able to hail robotaxi trips at all hours for months, but Cruise began offering daytime rides to public "power users" in specific areas of the city in April.

Passengers using Android phones who become power users, or customers who sign up for free trips to test beta features, will be able to hail daytime rides. Cruise has stated that the company is continuing to extend the availability of daytime rides in San Francisco, so that paying customers will be able to use the service in the future.
