Campaign calls for action to p...The use of AI-generated art is becoming more prevalent across all creative industries.
Digital rights organization Fight for the Future and United Musicians and Allied Workers have launched a campaign called #AIdayofaction, which aims to prevent corporations from copyrighting musical compositions and other artwork created with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI). The organizations believe such a move would force companies to continue involving human creativity in the creative process, protecting artists from being cut out altogether. The initiative targets potential corporate abuse of AI technology while being aware that some creatives could benefit from automating certain parts of their work. By preventing major record labels and others from copyrighting AI music, tools that are currently seen as a threat "become ways for individual humans to make more money, work less, and compete with the corporations that exploit them".
The campaign is also a sign of the growing concern among artists that the rise of AI-generated art could harm their livelihoods. Fight for the Future Campaigns and Communications Director Lia Holland said the different creative fields are siloed, hence the importance of artists of different mediums working together. The use of AI-generated art is becoming more prevalent across all creative industries. It is leading to growing fears among artists that their livelihoods will be threatened. The campaign aims to rein in AI technology before these concerns become reality. However, the issue is complicated with many different parties, including major record labels and musicians, keen to ensure their interests are protected.
