The Silicon Review
20 November, 2023

Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, together with colleagues, will be now be joining Microsoft

In a dramatic development, Satya Nadella announced on November 20 on X (formerly Twitter) that former OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and president Greg Brockman would be joining Microsoft to head its newly formed advanced AI research team. On X, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella made an announcement regarding Altman's hiring, saying that the company will remain committed to its partnership with OpenAI and has confidence in the company's product roadmap, the team's ability to continue to innovate with everything that was announced at Microsoft Ignite, and in continuing to support customers and partners.

Furthermore it was added that the company is looking forward to get to know Emmett Shear and OAI's new leadership team and working with them and the company is extremely excited to reveal the news that Sam Altman and Greg Brockman, together with colleagues, will be now be joining Microsoft to lead a new advanced AI research team. Microsoft will now be moving quickly to give them the resources needed for their success, the company's chief executive posted. Consider that Microsoft has made billion-dollar investments in OpenAI and integrated the company's technology into several of its products, including Bing. Earlier in the day, OpenAI rejected investor demands for the reinstatement of Altman and instead appointed Emmett Shear, the former CEO of Twitch, as the new CEO. The business that developed ChatGPT, OpenAI, fired Altman on Saturday, citing a lack of trust in his abilities to steer the AI startup funded by Microsoft.
