Meta said that it would remove a dedicated section for news articles in April

Meta announced on Thursday its decision to remove the dedicated news articles section from Facebook in April, impacting users in the United States and Australia. The social media giant stated that this move is part of its ongoing efforts to realign investments with the most valued products and services, according to a corporate blog post. The decision to discontinue the Facebook News tab comes after Meta's announcement in September to eliminate the news section for users in the U.K., France, and Germany. Despite the closure of the Facebook News tab in various countries, Meta assures that users can still access news article links through the core Facebook app.

News publishers will maintain access to their Facebook accounts and pages to post links to their stories and direct users to their websites. Meta stated that current agreements with news publishers in Australia, France, and Germany will be unaffected. However, the business indicated that it will not enter into new commercial agreements for conventional news material in these countries, nor will it create new Facebook products designed exclusively for news publishers in the future. Meta stressed their dedication to developing goods and services that increase user engagement. News organizations may use products like Reels and the ad system to reach larger audiences and boost traffic to their websites, while keeping 100% of the money from outbound links on Facebook.
