AdventHealth initiated 3 MW So...Christine Stewart emphasizes the project's alignment with the organization's sustainability objectives
Embarking on a significant environmental endeavor, AdventHealth initiates the construction of a substantial solar energy project at its headquarters in Altamonte Springs, Florida. This endeavor underscores the health system's dedication to environmental sustainability and the reduction of carbon emissions. Led by ESA, a national solar developer headquartered in Maitland, Florida, the project entails installing over 7,500 solar panels atop four buildings and two parking structures within AdventHealth's corporate campus. The plan includes constructing solar canopies across the parking lot and installing 62 electric vehicle charging stations, demonstrating a strong commitment to sustainable energy usage and support for electric vehicles.
Christine Stewart underscores the significance of such initiatives in promoting the well-being of team members, patients, communities, and the environment. Expected to be completed by the end of 2024, it will stand as one of the largest private corporate solar installations in Florida, capable of generating enough electricity to power over 550 homes annually. This initiative forms part of AdventHealth's broader environmental strategy, including a commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from electricity by 50% by 2030, in accordance with the U.S. Health and Human Services Health Sector Climate Pledge. Additionally, the health system is exploring virtual power purchase agreements for large-scale renewable energy projects and engaging in community energy projects, underscoring its dedication to sustainable energy solutions within the healthcare sector.
