As part of the collaboration, INDO-MIM has acquired three HP Metal Jet S100 printers

HP Inc. has collaborated with Metal Injection Molding (MIM) firm Indo-MIM to initiate large-scale production of metal 3D parts in India. Savi Baveja, President of Personalization and 3D Printing at HP, anticipates nearly 40 percent growth in India due to this partnership. Leveraging HP's 3D Binder Jet technology, INDO-MIM can now mass produce high-precision metal components for various sectors, including automotive, aerospace, defense, consumer electronics, and medical equipment. Potential clients include DRDO and ISRO. Indo-MIM has acquired three HP Metal Jet S100 printers, with two designated for client support and production expansion in India and the third stationed at their facility in Texas, USA.

The Binder-Jet 3D printing process, as claimed by the company, offers 10 times higher production efficiency compared to other additive manufacturing methods while generating minimal waste and enabling extensive design freedom. Krishna Chivukula Jr., CEO of Indo-MIM, highlights the strategic importance of locally manufacturing spare parts for the defense industry in light of current geopolitical circumstances, aiming to reduce imports and enhance national security. He mentions ongoing efforts to develop process software that will mitigate challenges associated with shrinkage and iteration requirements in the printing process. Moreover, HP and INDO-MIM are collaborating on testing new HP Metal Jet materials like M2 tool steel, aiming to enhance properties and precision, thereby advancing metal 3D printing capabilities.
