USSPACECOM visit cemented comm...Both countries continue to deepen their collaboration through dialogue on space and missile defense capabilities
During his inaugural overseas visit, Gen. Stephen Whiting, Commander of the United States Space Command (USSPACECOM), journeyed to the Republic of Korea (ROK) on April 21–22. His objective was to engage with senior government and military officials, advancing discussions on space and missile defense capabilities in modern warfare and reinforcing the integration of space assets within the broader defense framework of the Korean Peninsula. Throughout his visit, accompanied by Gen. Paul LaCamera, Commander of United States Forces Korea, who oversees the U.S.-ROK military relationship, Gen. Whiting emphasized the crucial role of space-based assets in enhancing situational awareness and communication. The discussions revolved around leveraging USSPACECOM's expertise and capabilities to strengthen the defense posture of the U.S. and allied forces in the region, ensuring readiness and resilience amid evolving security challenges.
Gen. LaCamera highlighted the enduring commitment of the U.S.-ROK Alliance to adapt and enhance cooperation in the space domain. He emphasized the significance of increased efforts in space to prevent adversaries from gaining advantages and to empower forces with the resources of military and civilian space agencies and departments.
Gen. Whiting underscored the foundational importance of space to modern life and national security for both the United States and the Republic of Korea. He highlighted the growing alliance interoperability in space as evidence of the enduring U.S.-ROK Alliance, which has been pivotal for over 70 years.
