Sands Macao Celebrates 20th An...Since opening its doors on May 18, 2004, Sands Macao has expanded to include five properties
Sands Macao recently celebrated its 20th anniversary, highlighting what it calls a "period of monumental growth for Sands China and Macao." Since opening its doors on May 18, 2004, Sands Macao has expanded to include five properties, attracting over 950 million visits. Wilfred Wong, executive vice chairman of Sands China, highlighted the company's significant role in Macao's development, stating, "Sands China takes immense pride in bearing witness to and actively participating in the flourishing development of this remarkable city. Together, we script an indelible chapter in history." He credited the grand opening of Sands Macao as a pivotal moment in the city's tourism evolution, inspired by the integrated resort model of Las Vegas. This vision, initiated by founder Sheldon G. Adelson, transformed the Cotai skyline and solidified Macao's status as a global gaming hub.
Las Vegas Sands, the parent company of Sands China, has seen substantial returns from its Macao investments, which now include over 12,000 hotel rooms. The company also celebrates its dedicated workforce, with over 15,000 team members expected to have over 10 years of service by the end of 2024. More than 6,600 employees have been with the company for over 15 years, and 1,500 for over 20 years, highlighting Sands' commitment to its staff. Sands Macao, the first property completed under the new gaming concessions of the early 2000s, marked a significant turning point for the city, cementing its transformation into the world's premier gaming destination.
