With the aim of revolutionizing the bioplastics industry in the Middle East, Africa, and India, SS Royal Kit Emirates Investment has partnered up with Global Biopolymers Industries. The objective of this partnership is to launch Emirates Biotech, with its headquarters in Dubai, to spearhead the manufacturing and distribution of PLA biopolymers.
Valued for their sustainable qualities, such as being 100% renewable, biodegradable, and recyclable, PLA (polylactic acid) biopolymers are a game-changer. Theodorus Everwijn of Global Biopolymers Industries emphasized that PLA is a remarkable innovation in battling pollution caused by plastics across the world. Emirates Biotech aims to start commercial operations in early 2025 and plans to start construction of its first manufacturing plant by 2026. By emphasizing the partnership’s orientation with the UAE’s Green Agenda 2030, Shaikh Suhail Ali Saeed Rashed Al-Maktoum appreciated the venture’s commitment to creating an environmentally conscious society. The company will be spearheaded by industry experts Marc Verbruggen, who is renowned for his transformational leadership in bioplastics, supported by François de Bie, a dedicated manufacturer of sustainable materials. The solutions portfolio of Emirates Biotech also extends to offer extensive solutions such as application development, infrastructure for recycling, and sustainable end-of-life strategies. This panoramic strategy aims to meet local demand for environmentally friendly alternatives while also facilitating a transition to a circular natural bio-based economy.
This partnership emerges as a trailblazing effort towards sustainability by reshaping the plastics landscape across MENA and beyond, calling forth future development and innovation that go hand-in-hand with environmental sustainability.
