Samsung India to Lay Off Over ...The decision was made in an effort to cut expenses and increase revenue as the company deals with increasing competition in the smartphone market
Due to slowed business growth and declining customer demand, Samsung Electronics plans to lay off more than 200 executives in India as part of a cost-cutting move. The layoffs impacting a variety of functions—such as home appliances, mobile phones, and support roles—account for about 10% of the 2,000 executives in the company.
The decision was made in an effort to cut expenses and increase revenue as the company deals with increasing competition in the smartphone market. In addition to reducing its workforce, Samsung India might reorganize its operations by combining several of its business units, such home appliances and television, which might result in additional layoffs. Furthermore, the corporation is not filling positions left empty by voluntary departures and has frozen new hires. These layoffs have occurred at the same time as a strike at Samsung's Chennai plant, which has hampered the company's ability to produce essential consumer goods like refrigerators and televisions in time for the holidays. The labor dispute has caused the factory to operate at 50–80% capacity at currently.
Samsung made the choice to reduce its staff in order to address issues driven by a decline in its smartphone market share and rising competition, especially from Chinese smartphone manufacturers. In terms of sales, Samsung continues to lead the Indian mobile and consumer electronics industries despite these challenges. The business has promised to support the affected workers and is providing severance benefits in accordance with the terms of their contracts. A final decision on further restructuring is expected after Diwali.
