Cisco Exits LoRaWAN Market, Le...The decision is a setback for enterprises that depend on Cisco for low-power, long-range IoT deployments
Cisco has made the decision to leave the LoRaWAN market and will no longer be providing IoT device connectivity. As a result, current customers will not be offered a migration path. The LoRaWAN gateways and related products (omni-directional antennas, related software, and LoRaWAN gateways operating at 800 MHz and 900 MHz) have their end-of-sale and end-of-life dates specified in an official notification released by the firm.
Orders for these goods will no longer be accepted after January 1, 2025, and customer assistance will be available until the end of 2029. However, after December 31, 2026, no scheduled maintenance updates will be provided. The decision is a setback for enterprises that depend on Cisco for low-power, long-range IoT deployments. Cisco's departure from LoRaWAN is part of a larger restructuring effort that also involves cutting expenses and a move in the direction of cybersecurity and artificial intelligence. The business has announced a 6% year-over-year decrease in overall revenue for FY 2024 along with the layoff of 7% of its global workforce.
Cisco is leaving the highly competitive industry, which also includes well-known companies like Bosch and Semtech. With no clear migration plan in place as a result of this change, Cisco's IoT clients might opt to search for other suppliers.
