Wing and Serve Robotics Launch...With this innovative method, restaurants can increase the delivery area they serve without having to make changes to their operations or buy new equipment
Serve Robotics and Wing, a drone delivery division of Alphabet, the parent company of Google, have teamed up to launch a novel robot-to-drone delivery service in Dallas. This innovative pilot project combines Wing's aerial drones with Serve's sidewalk delivery robots to transform last-mile delivery.
Customers may place orders for food from participating restaurants using the new service, and Serve's robots will pick it up curbside and deliver it to a Wing drone AutoLoader which is located nearby. The delivery is then finished by the drones within a 6-mile radius. With this innovative method, restaurants can increase the delivery area they serve without having to make changes to their operations or buy new equipment. The robot-to-drone delivery approach has several advantages, including quicker service due to avoiding traffic, cost savings through manpower reduction, and sustainability because both the robots and the drones are entirely electric. By keeping vehicles from being on the road and reducing the chance of accidents, the service also improves safety.
The solution's efficiency was highlighted by Serve Robotics' CEO and co-founder, Dr. Ali Kashani, who said that it expands delivery from local zones to entire cities in 30 minutes. The CEO of Wing, Adam Woodworth, highlighted the objective of expanding Serve's delivery radius and reaching more businesses in crowded locations. After seeing success in California, where it teamed with Uber Eats in Los Angeles, Serve Robotics is now entering the Texas market with this launch.
