Trump Launches $542 Billion ...The U.S. is planning a next-generation defense system to counter modern global missile attacks.
A new defense plan named “Golden Dome,” initiated by the President of the United States, Donald J. Trump, aims to protect the nation from advanced missile threats. This ambitious defense project detects and defeats hypersonic, ballistic and cruise missile attacks from both land and space. The Golden Dome, marked as a major milestone in American defense strategy, is a next-generation missile defense system with a planned cost of $542 billion over the next 20 years.
Israel’s successful “Iron Dome” system, operational since 2011, acts as an inspiration for the Golden Dome model, which aims to defeat short-range rockets and missiles before they reach Israeli territory. Next-generation technologies like space-based sensors and interceptors are included in the system to identify and destroy missiles in their early phases of flight. Missile attacks from opposing nations like China, Russia, North Korea, and Iran can be defended by this protective shield.
Accompanied by U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth in the Oval Office on Tuesday, the president complimented the project, defining it as a prime objective since returning to the White House. To manage the progress of the Golden Dome project, General Michael Guetlein, the Vice Chief of Space Operations, has charged. Canada also expressed interest in joining the project, which is aimed to be completed by the end of Trump’s second presidential term in 2029, and it will be fully operational within three years.
To provide global coverage from missile attacks, about 16,000 interceptors would be needed. Although the Golden Dome initiative is technically practicable, it represents significant logistical problems and may need substantial capital investment.
