MAHA Report Worries Farmers an...PHARMACEUTICS AND LIFE SCIENCE
Kennedy’s MAHA Report on childhood health issues raises concerns among agricultural and political stakeholders.
The “Make America Healthy Again” (MAHA) Commission report, guided by U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., creates a fierce struggle between several prominent Republican lawmakers, farmers, and Kennedy’s campaign. A much-awaited report commissioned by President Donald Trump is about childhood diseases such as obesity, depression, and ADHD and their roots in lifestyle factors, including food additives, medications, and environmental toxins. The MAHA commission report is scheduled to be released on Thursday, 22 May.
One potential finding related to glyphosate, a component frequently used in pesticides sprayed on crops, has raised concerns among Republicans and farmers. Meanwhile, Kennedy has assured that the report will not harm farmers. Glyphosate, according to some farmers, is essential for weed control, and diminishing the need for excessive tilling, which helps farmers save money and soil. Sen. Chuck Grassley, a Republican from Iowa, explains the frustration of farmers for not being able to provide input on the MAHA report before it was released.
Kennedy has gained international recognition for his legal battles against the companies that produced the weedkiller Roundup. Glyphosate, the main component of that product, is considered a probable carcinogen for humans by the WHO. He added that there is no need for the American farmers to worry about the report, and the business model would remain unchanged.
The MAHA Commission report is a White House review conducted within 100 days to study how prescribed medications for children and school meals contribute to childhood health issues. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., FDA Commissioner Marty Makary, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, and Director of the National Institutes of Health Jay Bhattacharya were the president’s cabinet members supposed to conduct the review.
