Texas’ Biggest Energy Data C...Fermi America plans a HyperGrid campus powered by nuclear, natural gas, solar, and battery storage.
Fermi America, a company co-founded by former U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry, has unveiled plans for a major new project in Texas. The company plans to construct one of the world's biggest data center complexes, and to meet the increasing power demands of artificial intelligence infrastructure, this project will integrate nuclear, natural gas, solar, and battery storage.
On Thursday, Fermi America revealed its most recent plan for a new project known as the "HyperGrid" campus, which will be constructed in Amarillo, Texas. The project will include the biggest nuclear and natural gas plants in the country and is expected to produce 1 gigawatt of power by the end of next year. According to the company, construction has already started, and the site will cover around 5,769 acres. The new HyperGrid behind-the-meter campus of Fermi will bring together multiple significant energy sources in one place. It will serve hyperscale data center enterprises by combining the largest nuclear power complex in America, the largest combined-cycle natural gas project in the country, utility grid power, solar electricity, and battery energy storage into one structure.
The planned campus, according to the firm, is situated on top of one of the largest known natural gas resources in the country and at the confluence of several major natural gas pipelines. By 2032, the company plans to complete the first phase of the nuclear project. Rick Perry says that China is now building 22 nuclear reactors. The U.S. is behind, and everyone is working together to move quickly. Perry added that President Trump's first executive order emphasized the energy crisis and the need to maintain America's position as the world's leading energy provider.
