That does not necessarily mean they are malicious or intentionally harmful. Complacency, on the other hand, leaves businesses exposed to sophisticated, AI-enabled threats.

A balanced approach recognises that:

Dark AI is not about dystopian futures. It is about responsible management in the present. By understanding what dark AI truly represents — and dispelling common myths — organisations can shift from reactive fear to proactive strategy. Clear policies, continuous monitoring, staff awareness and executive accountability form the foundation of a mature AI governance framework.

The conversation around AI should not be dominated by hype or alarmism. It should be guided by clarity, responsibility and preparedness. In the evolving digital landscape, knowledge is the strongest defence.
