How buy feature options work in certain slot games

Slot games

Some online slot games include an option called a Buy Feature (also known as Bonus Buy). This function lets you pay a fixed amount to activate a special in-game round – usually the main bonus – without waiting for it to trigger through standard gameplay. It changes how you access these rounds but doesn't alter the base mechanics or how outcomes are generated.

You'll find Buy Feature options on selected regulated online slot titles, depending on the market and operator. This function isn't available in all jurisdictions, as its availability is subject to local regulation and licensing rules.

Here's how Buy Feature options work and what you should know before using them.

What's the Buy Feature?

In regular online slot gameplay, bonus rounds are triggered randomly, usually by landing a specific number of scatter or bonus symbols on the digital reels and rows. With the Buy Feature, you can bypass this process by purchasing direct access to that round for a set price.

The cost is typically a multiple of your base stake – often 50x, 75x, 100x, or more – depending on the game. It'll then take you directly into the bonus round, without needing to spin the reels for the required symbol combination.

How's the price determined?

The price of the Buy Feature is built into the game and reflects the expected value of entering the bonus round over time. It's calculated based on the probability of triggering it naturally and the average return the round could produce across many plays.

The cost isn't random or adjustable. It'll stay consistent within the game unless you change your base stake, which will cause the Buy Feature price to update, too.

What happens after purchase?

Once bought, the game automatically launches the round. Depending on the slot, this could be:

  • Free spins with added multipliers
  • A pick-and-click bonus round
  • A hold-and-spin round
  • Other custom mechanics linked to the game's theme

Outcomes are still determined by the game's Random Number Generator (RNG). Purchasing the round doesn't affect the fairness or integrity of the results.

Where Buy Features are found

Buy Feature options are usually included in modern video Slots from providers that design games for more customisable gameplay. These games often include a dedicated button near the spin controls that clearly states the cost based on your current stake.

Some of the slot types where Buy Features are most common include:

  • Hold and win formats
  • Cluster pays games
  • High-volatility titles with extended bonus rounds

In some versions, you might be given a choice between several types of rounds to purchase, each priced differently.

Availability by market

Not all licensed platforms can offer Buy Feature games. In some regulated markets, it's disabled entirely, even if the game includes it. In these cases, the game might still be available to play in its standard format, but the Buy button will either be hidden or inactive.

Operators must follow the specific rules set by the licensing authority in each jurisdiction. This is why the same game can appear differently across sites, depending on regional requirements.
